Yoruba Nollywood actress, Yusuf kafilat Omoshalewa popularly known as Basira Beree, has opened up about a painful chapter in her journey to stardom, revealing how her career choice led to a major family conflict.
Speaking in an interview with Oyinmomo TV, the actress recounted the moment her acting career caused a rift with her father.
The trouble began when her father stumbled upon her appearance in a movie.
Unconvinced of what he had seen, he immediately sent the video to her elder brother for confirmation, asking if it was truly his daughter on the screen.
Following this discovery, Basira Beree received an urgent call instructing her to return home.
At the time, she had already given birth to her first child and was no longer living under her father’s roof.
Uncertain of the reason for the summons, she pleaded with her brother to find out what offense she had committed.
Her brother soon revealed that her father had seen her acting and was demanding an explanation for why she had ventured into the movie industry.
The situation escalated when a family meeting was called specifically to address her new career path.
It was during this tense gathering that her father delivered a decisive ultimatum.
He stated plainly that he would cease paying her school fees, using financial support as a tool to express his disapproval of her chosen profession.
Her words: “The day my father saw me in a movie after I joined Nollywood, he sent it to my elder brother and asked if it was really me he saw. He then requested that I return home. So, I got a call to return home. I had given birth to my first child by this time I am talking about, so I was no longer living under his roof. I pleaded with my brother to ask my father what I had done for him to request that I come home. He told me that he had seen me in a movie and asked why I would go and start acting. On this day I am referring to, they called a family meeting, and my father told me that he would stop paying my school fees.”
