BREAKING: Igbos Should Continue to Run for Nigerian President Whether They Win or Not- Sam Amadi

Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Sam Amadi, has called on the Igbos to continue vying for the presidency of Nigeria, regardless of the electoral outcome.

In a statement on his X handle on Friday, March 27, 2026, the legal scholar and political analyst urged the ethnic group to remain politically engaged at the federal level while simultaneously shifting their primary focus toward internal development.

Amadi emphasized that the region must prioritize economic power and technological advancement, alongside the maintenance of a well-managed and stable South-East.

He wrote, “Igbos should continue to run for Nigerian president whether they win or not. But we pay attention to what matters most-economic power and technology, while maintaining a well-managed region.”

This advice arrives against a backdrop of deep-seated grievances regarding the marginalization of the Igbos in the politics of Nigeria.

Since the end of the civil war, many in the South-East have alleged a systematic exclusion from the highest echelons of power, arguing that the region is consistently denied a fair share of key federal appointments and infrastructure.

These sentiments reached a peak during the 2023 presidential election cycle, where the candidacy of Peter Obi became a focal point for regional aspirations.

Obi’s massive support in the South East was largely seen as a collective reaction to this perceived side-lining.

Supporters argued that his bid represented the most viable path to ending decades of political isolation.

The overwhelming turnout in the region was not merely for a candidate, but a demand for equity within the Nigerian federation.

Amadi’s current stance suggests that while the quest for the presidency must persist to assert the region’s right to lead, the ultimate safeguard for the Igbos lies in building a self-reliant economic and technological fortress.
