Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has installed Mr Jerome Leklat as the fourth Long Pan of Pan Chiefdom in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The governor presented the Staff of Office to the new traditional ruler on Wednesday in Qua’an Pan.

Newsmen reports that the installation of Leklat marked the restoration of traditional stool of the chiefdom following the demise of Mr Emmanuel Dabang, the former Long Pan in May 2025.

Speaking, Mutfwang urged the new traditional ruler to uphold the dignity of the traditional institution and administer justice without fear or favour.

“Today, we gather not merely to witness the installation and presentation of staff of office to a new traditional ruler, but to celebrate the restoration of a cherished institution, a common identity and a revered symbol of unity.

“This has bounded the people of Pan together for generations. This is, indeed, a defining moment in the history of Pan chiefdom.

“Today’s installation is also a reminder that leadership is a trust, and so your ascension to the revered throne of your ancestors is by divine providence.

“But note that the honour that comes with the stool carries an equally profound responsibility.

“You have been entrusted with the history, dignity and aspirations of an entire people, I, therefore, urge you to lead with wisdom, humility, fairness and courage” he advised.

Mutfwang, who commended the Kingmakers and residents of the chiefdom for the peaceful selection of a new traditional ruler, urged other communities with vacant traditional stools to follow suite.

The governor, who called on residents of the chiefdom to expose perpetrators of criminal acts, urged traditional rulers in the state to sensitise their subjects against activities capable of undermining the peace and development of the state.

Earlier, Mr Ephraim Usman, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state, said that the Mutfwang administration had demonstrated commitment to repositioning the traditional institution to effectively perform its role as custodian of the people’s culture, norms and traditions.

Usman described the traditional institution as highly revered owing to its important role in preserving the values and heritage of the people.

Similarly, the Chairman of Qua’an Pan LGA, Mr. Christopher Manship, promised to support the new traditional ruler to succeed in his new assignment.

In his acceptance speech, Leklat thanked the kingmakers and residents of the chiefdom for finding him worthy to serve them.

He promised to serve with dignity, courage, and fairness while soliciting the support and cooperation of the people to discharge his duties effectively
