BREAKING: Court grants Sowore, Ejimakor, Kanu’s brother, 10 others bail

A Magistrate’s Court in Kuje, Abuja, has granted bail to activist Omoyele Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, and 11 others arrested over the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in the Federal Capital Territory.

The court, during its sitting on Friday, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

Defendants Charged With Breach of Peace

The 13 accused persons were arraigned on allegations of inciting public disturbance and breach of peace during the protest that took place on Monday in Abuja. Prosecutors claimed that their actions disrupted public order and security within the capital city.

According to reports, Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel Kanu (Nnamdi Kanu’s brother), and ten others were arrested during the demonstration and later remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Sowore Arrested at Federal High Court

Meanwhile, Sowore was reportedly arrested on October 23 at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he had gone to express solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently facing terrorism-related charges.

The activist’s arrest sparked public outrage, with human rights groups calling for his immediate release and accusing the authorities of targeting peaceful protesters.

Public Reaction and Next Steps

The bail ruling has been widely welcomed by rights advocates, who described it as a step toward protecting citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly.

The case is expected to resume soon as the prosecution prepares to present evidence against the 13 defendants.
