ASUU Suspends Two-Week Warning Strike
According to ASUU’s National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, the decision to suspend the strike stemmed from the National Executive Council meeting.
Thr meeting was held around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
The strike stemmed from ASUU’s demands over the 2009 Agreement, which include,
– Payment of Withheld Salaries: Three and a half months’ salary arrears owed to lecturers
– Promotion Arrears: Unpaid promotion arrears spanning over four years
– Renegotiation of 2009 Agreement: Review and implementation of the agreement to improve funding, welfare, and working conditions
– Revitalization Funding: Funding for public universities to improve infrastructure
– Release of Third-Party Deductions: Payment of withheld cooperative contributions and union check-off dues.
According to a recent report, ASUU issued a one-month ultimatum to federal government to address its demands.
Earlier, The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) issues the Federal Government a one-month ultimatum to resolve the ongoing crisis in the tertiary education sector.
This ultimatum is in support of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other tertiary institution-based unions.
