Borno Bombing:Before I Could Ask Further Questions, I Heard The Second Blast -Survivor Recounts

In a report by DAILY TRUST on Saturday March 28 2026, Malma Bulama Modu, a 53-year-old porter at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), has shared his harrowing experience during the explosions that rocked Borno State on March 16, when multiple suspected suicide bombings occurred.

Modu, who is currently receiving treatment at UMTH, suffered serious fractures in both legs, explained that he was on his way to work for his night shift when the first explosion went off.

Confused, he asked those around him what was happening and was told it was a bomb attack. Modu said before he could process the situation, another blast followed almost immediately.

He said the force of the second explosion threw him to the ground, leaving him helpless and unable to move.

From his hospital bed, Modu described how he lay on the ground in shock, struggling to understand what had just happened.

He said the pain in his legs was unbearable, and he could not get up or call for help.

Modu stated, “Before I could ask further questions, I heard the second blast and found myself lying helplessly on the ground, unable to move my body.”
