A visiting United States lawmaker, Rep. Riley Moore, has raised fresh global concern after witnessing what he described as heartbreaking accounts of violence against Christians during his visit to Benue State, Nigeria.
Moore, who is currently in the country to observe what he believes to be a growing pattern of genocide against Christian communities, shared his findings on Wednesday through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Harrowing Sight Inside the IDP Camps
According to the US lawmaker, over 600,000 displaced Christians are living in internally displaced persons camps across Benue State.

He said these families were violently forced out of their ancestral homes by armed bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers who continue to target rural communities.
Moore explained that the shocking stories he heard from survivors would “remain with me for the rest of my life.”
Survivors Share Painful Stories
During his visit, Moore said he met dozens of survivors who narrated horrifying details of the attacks that destroyed their families.

He wrote: “While in Benue, I met with dozens of Christians who were driven from their homes and subjected to horrific violence and now live in IDP camps.”
One woman told him she was forced to watch as attackers killed her husband and five children. She escaped with her unborn child by a narrow margin.
Another woman said her entire family was murdered before her eyes, and her baby was violently ripped from her womb.
A male survivor recalled how his wife and children were hacked to death, leaving him with a permanently damaged arm.

Growing Fears Over Targeted Attacks
Moore noted that more than 600,000 Christians are currently living in IDP camps in Benue alone, a figure he described as alarming and unacceptable.
He added: “These Christians should be able to live in their ancestral homeland without fear of genocidal Fulani.”
