Bayelsa State Government has declared three days of mourning for Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on Thursday after collapsing in his office around noon.
All flags across the state are to fly at half-mast during the mourning period.
Deputy Governor collapses during official duties
State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiowou Koku-Obiyai, expressed profound shock over Ewhrudjakpo’s sudden death at age 60, noting that he had been active and performing official duties earlier in the day.
The Deputy Governor collapsed while proceeding to a scheduled meeting and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he was later confirmed dead.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo had served Bayelsa State with distinction as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Senator representing Bayelsa West, and Deputy Governor since 2020.
Governor Douye Diri offered condolences to the family and the people of Bayelsa, describing his death as a great loss to the state and nation.
