Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has appointed his elder brother, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, as the Emir of the newly created Duguri Emirate.
The appointment was made officially on Friday, October 24, 2025.
Details Of The Appointment
The Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo, presented the appointment letter to the new Emir at the palace in Duguri, Alkaleri Local Government Area.
It would be recalled that Mohammed created 13 new emirates and chiefdoms across the state, aiming to address perceived injustices, promote inclusiveness, and strengthen traditional institutions.
This law was signed by the state governor on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
However, it’s not the first time he’s been in the headlines for controversy.
He previously sparked debate over the Federal Government’s Tax Reform Bill, labeling it ‘hasty’ and ‘unfair’, which led to the Presidency condemning his comments as ‘inflammatory’.
The controversy surrounding the tax reform bill isn’t new, with the Presidency accusing Governor Mohammed of playing ‘irresponsible politics’ with his criticism.
Despite this, the governor has reiterated his opposition to the bill, stating he cannot be intimidated.
Additionally, Governor Mohammed was involved in another controversy when his deputy, Auwal Jatau, allegedly slapped the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, during a heated altercation at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi
