The Chairperson of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Jummai Abubakar, has called on residents to take advantage of the ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration to ensure their full participation in upcoming elections.
Abubakar made the appeal on Tuesday during a sensitisation visit to Dass Local Government Area.
She said the exercise was aimed at creating awareness among the electorate that voter registration is currently ongoing across the country.
“It is expected that all eligible voters should obtain their PVCs to allow them to participate fully in the upcoming general election in the country. It is a civic responsibility of every Nigerian to exercise their right during elections, and the only way is to obtain PVCs,” Abubakar said.
The BASIEC chairperson commended Governor Bala Mohammed for giving her the opportunity to serve and pledged to tackle voter apathy through advocacy visits to local government chairmen, religious leaders, and traditional rulers.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Dass Local Government, Comrade Mohammed Jibo, represented by the Director of Administration and General Services, Bala Duguri, lauded the commission for the sensitisation initiative.
He assured that the council would embark on grassroots mobilisation to ensure maximum participation and pledged full support in driving voter education and mobilisation efforts.
The appeal comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently commenced its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise to boost participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Earlier this month, a support group for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, BTO4PBAT2027, had similarly urged youths in the South-West to register and collect their PVCs ahead of the polls.
