The Bauchi State Police Command has dismissed reports that the residence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ward Chairman in Ribina West, Toro Local Government Area, was set ablaze by angry youths.
DAILY POST had reported that violence erupted over the relocation of a traditional stool from Garin Koginsallah to another community, with claims that protesters targeted the PDP chairman’s home.
Addressing the situation, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, urged the public to disregard circulating social media claims. “On October 26, 2025, a social media user posted that a violent protest occurred in Tallam village over the alleged imposition of a new District Head, and that the PDP chairman’s house was targeted,” he said.
Wakil stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, immediately directed security personnel to prevent any breakdown of law and order. A patrol team was deployed, and a peace meeting convened with the Emir of Toro and other traditional leaders. The Emir confirmed that no new district had been created and assured residents of their involvement in future traditional appointments.
The police warned those spreading false information to desist, citing enforcement of the Cybercrime Act against offenders. Wakil confirmed that the area is calm and emphasized that anyone disrupting public peace would face legal consequences.
Residents appealed for continued peace and urged authorities to maintain the current traditional arrangement.
