The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men accused of assaulting police officers and disrupting an official operation in Bauchi metropolis.
The suspects, identified as Friday, whose surname was not provided, and Yunana Ali, were arrested on October 3, 2026, along Yelwa Road during a routine patrol.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
Habib said the suspects were intercepted by officers attached to the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team while carrying out enforcement activities under Operation Velvet.
According to the police, the officers requested the men to present their vehicle documents for inspection, but the suspects refused to comply and became confrontational.
The situation escalated when the men attacked the officers physically. The police said the confrontation resulted in the uniform of an Inspector of Police being torn.

The suspects were eventually overpowered and taken to the ‘E’ Division for further investigation, the command said.
Police Commissioner Condemns Alleged Assault
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the attack, describing it as a challenge to constituted authority and an attempt to obstruct officers from carrying out their responsibilities.
Aliyu warned that the command would not tolerate attacks against police personnel engaged in lawful duties.
He also advised residents with grievances against police actions to seek redress through appropriate channels rather than resorting to confrontation.
The command said the suspects would be prosecuted after the completion of the investigation.
The police further appealed to residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with officers during routine checks, stressing that compliance with lawful instructions is necessary to prevent situations that could threaten public order.
