As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has called on citizens to remain united and rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in its drive to reposition the country for growth and prosperity.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau congratulated Nigerians on the milestone and commended their resilience despite prevailing socio-economic challenges.
“What is uppermost now is for all Nigerians to give President Tinubu the needed support as he propels the nation towards prosperity,” he said.
Barau noted that the benefits of the government’s economic reforms are beginning to manifest, while significant progress has been made in improving security in recent years.
He urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the country’s founding fathers, including Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, who stood for unity, justice, peace, and tolerance.
“At 65, we may face challenges, but we will overcome them. Nigeria will emerge stronger from its present trials, by God’s grace,” he assured.
Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, pledged that the legislature would continue to support the executive with laws that advance good governance and help actualise the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He concluded with a message of optimism: “Let us continue to support President Tinubu to implement his policies and programmes. He has good intentions for Nigeria, and together, we will get it right.”
