Bandits: “We must not accept their plea until they’re all neutralized and eliminated” – IBB

Former military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has advised the Federal Government (FG) not to accept any plea for surrender from bandits operating across the country.

Babangida made the statement in a post on his official X handle, formerly known as Twitter, where he insisted that all bandits must be dealt with decisively.

According to him, the security forces should focus on completely neutralising the criminals before considering any form of engagement.

IBB wrote: “While the bandits are pleading for surrender, we must not accept their plea until every one of them is neutralized and eliminated.

“Afterward, I expect the military to invite negotiators and sympathizers like Sheikh Gumi and other subordinates, for comprehensive questioning.”

The former leader’s comment has since sparked reactions from Nigerians on social media, with many users sharing mixed views on his position.

One user, identified as Dr. Jay, supported the stance, writing: “Exactly sir..✓ By now, Gumi should have been sympathizing with them in the lower chamber of Military Cantonment..✍️”

Another commenter, Phyno, expressed concern about public opinion shifts, stating: “Nigerians only have temporary brains, after all the hate Nigerians hate Gumi, if gumi come out today and say something captivating, trust our mumu Niaja people dem go like am sharp sharp, start they support am.”

Also reacting, Ikechukwu said: “It is very important that this idea be implemented to the last letter.”

The comments come amid ongoing national debates over how best to address insecurity and armed banditry in different parts of Nigeria.
