Sokoto State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed an attack on Kware town by bandits.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the community is the country home of the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Manir Dan’iya.
The command spokesman, Ahmad Rufai, said the attack, which occurred around 9 p.m. on Saturday, left one person dead and another one injured.
He said the terrorists stormed the town in large numbers, shot into the air and set a silo ablaze.
“Two people were shot during the attack. One died shortly after being taken to the hospital, while the other is currently receiving treatment and responding well,” Mr Rufa’i said.
He added that, “It took a swift reinforcement from our officers to repel the attackers.”
A source within the community also confirmed the attack to Daily Trust Newspaper, saying that the attackers infiltrated the town through an entry point of the market.
“They came through the backdoor of our market and began shooting indiscriminately. Part of the market was set ablaze,” he said.
“As they fled, they also set fire on a borehole located at our main cemetery.”
He said this was not the first time the town’s market had been targeted.
