The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Monday distributed relief materials to 1,400 victims of banditry from Yauri, Shanga and Bunza Local Government Areas of Kebbi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the distribution exercise, held in Kalgo Local Government Area, was part of the Federal Government’s commitment to alleviating the hardship faced by communities affected by insecurity in the North-West region.

The Director-General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, who personally supervised the exercise, said the intervention followed a joint assessment conducted with relevant stakeholders to ascertain the number of affected persons before the items were approved and procured.

“This is a testament to our commitment. The federal government is deeply conscious of the suffering of these families who have been displaced and traumatised by bandits.

“NEMA is here to provide immediate relief while longer-term solutions are being pursued,” she said.

Umar noted that the assessment informed both the quantity and category of items distributed, stressing that the agency’s interventions were evidence-based and impact-driven.
