According to a report by Vanguard, on Saturday March 7, 2026, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has shared a disturbing story from Edo State to highlight what it described as the growing cruelty of kidnappers and bandits operating across Nigeria.
The group’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, recounted an incident involving a medical doctor and his younger brother who were kidnapped by armed criminals, according to him, the attackers held both men in captivity and demanded ransom from their family.
Ajayi explained that despite receiving payment for the doctor’s release, the kidnappers still killed the younger brother, the tragic development, he said, showed the extreme violence often displayed by kidnappers during such operations.
However, the story later took an unexpected turn, after the doctor was released, he returned to his normal duties at the hospital, wome time later, the daughter of one of the kidnappers reportedly fell seriously ill.
The same doctor who had earlier been kidnapped happened to be on duty when the child was brought in for treatment, while attending to the patient, the doctor reportedly recognised the individuals who had abducted him and his brother.
According to Ajayi, the doctor quietly alerted the police after confirming their identities, security operatives later moved in and arrested the suspects, Ajayi said the incident clearly shows the contradiction in the behaviour of criminals who carry out kidnappings.
He noted that while the kidnappers valued the life of their own child enough to seek medical help, they had earlier shown no regard for the lives of their victims.
“When the daughter of one kidnapper fell ill, the doctor, on duty at the hospital, recognised the perpetrators and alerted the police, leading to their arrest.
The point here is that the bandit values the life of his daughter by seeking medical care for her, yet saw nothing wrong in killing other people,” he said.See_More…
