Bago swears in six new commissioners, gives fresh directive

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has sworn in six newly appointed commissioners and charged them to place the interests of the state above personal considerations as they take charge of their respective ministries.

The new cabinet members took the oath of office and oath of allegiance on Tuesday at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Minna, marking the beginning of their official responsibilities within the state executive council.

The oaths were administered by the Chief Magistrate I, Murtala Ibrahim.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bago urged the new commissioners to bring their experience, expertise and knowledge to bear on the administration’s development agenda.

The governor tasked them with ensuring that their ministries contribute meaningfully to the implementation of government programmes and the delivery of projects targeted at improving the lives of residents.

Bago also directed the commissioners to resume work immediately and familiarise themselves with the responsibilities of their respective ministries, including ongoing programmes and projects.

To facilitate the transition, the governor said permanent secretaries in the affected ministries had been instructed to brief the new commissioners and provide them with comprehensive reports on existing activities and programmes.

He urged the appointees to carefully study the reports to gain a proper understanding of the challenges, projects and priorities within their ministries.

The governor had previously assigned portfolios to the six commissioners following their appointment to the State Executive Council.

Their emergence followed the departure of six former commissioners who resigned from the cabinet to pursue their political ambitions in upcoming elective contests.

Bago urged the newly sworn-in commissioners to regard their appointments as a responsibility to the people rather than an avenue for personal interests.

He charged them to focus on service and contribute to the continued development of Niger State through effective administration and implementation of government policies.
