The Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe, has declared a seven-day mourning period following the death of the Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty Aholu Menu Toyi I.
The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement by Hunpe’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Kriko Augustine, and was approved by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“Akran peacefully joined his ancestors on Monday, January 12, after a long, illustrious, dignified, and impactful reign devoted to peace, unity, and the preservation of Badagry’s rich cultural heritage,” Hunpe said.
The late monarch was described as a respected custodian of tradition who played a vital role in connecting Badagry’s history with its future, while providing moral guidance to his people.
Hunpe urged residents to use the seven-day mourning period to reflect on the Akran’s selfless leadership, timeless values, and lifelong dedication to Badagry Local Government, Lagos State, and Nigeria.
Condolences were extended to the royal family, the Council of Obas and Chiefs, and the people of Badagry and Lagos State, as the community mourns the passing of a monarch whose legacy will endure.
