Babcock University Denies Fire Outbreak, Confirms January 12 Resumption

Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has dismissed reports of a fire outbreak on its campus, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the university’s Associate Vice President for Communications, Media and Branding, Dr Johnson Akintayo, said there was no fire incident in any part of the institution and that the reports were deliberately fabricated to misinform the public.

Akintayo also refuted claims that the university had postponed the resumption of its second semester, stressing that students are expected to resume as scheduled on Monday, January 12, 2026, in accordance with the institution’s academic calendar.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there was no fire incident and there is no fire incident whatsoever in any of the campuses of Babcock University,” the statement said, adding that the campuses are safe, secure, and fully prepared to receive students between January 12 and January 14, 2026.

The university warned individuals spreading misinformation to desist from such actions and urged the public to rely only on its official communication channels for verified information.

It further advised students and parents to disregard the circulating reports, reiterating that official decisions are not communicated through anonymous or unofficial platforms and that the previously announced resumption date remains unchanged.
