Awele Elumelu to Succeed Emmanuel Nnorom as Chair of Transcorp Hotels

Transcorp Hotels Plc has announced the appointment of Dr. Awele Vivien Elumelu as Chair of its Board of Directors, with effect from January 1, 2026.

In a statement issued in Abuja on December 16, 2025, the company said the appointment follows the retirement of the current Chair, Mr. Emmanuel N. Nnorom, who will step down from the Board effective the same date.

Transcorp Hotels, which is listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited under the ticker TRANSCOHOT, is the hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc.

Dr. Elumelu brings extensive leadership experience across healthcare, insurance, corporate governance, and philanthropy.

She currently serves as Chair of Avon Healthcare Limited, Nigeria’s leading health maintenance organization, and Avon Medical Practice, a growing network of hospitals and clinics. She also chairs Heirs Insurance Brokers and is a founding Director of Heirs Holdings Limited.

She is a medical doctor with an MBBS degree from the University of Benin and has practiced clinically in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Her medical background is complemented by executive education from global institutions including Harvard Business School, IMD Switzerland, and the London School of Economics.

Beyond corporate leadership, Dr. Elumelu plays a prominent role in philanthropy as Trustee and Co-Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation. Through the foundation, she has supported more than 24,000 young African entrepreneurs with access to seed capital, training, and mentorship, with a focus on youth empowerment and gender inclusion.

Commenting on the appointment, Group Chair of Transnational Corporation Plc, Mr. Tony O. Elumelu, said Dr. Elumelu’s experience and strategic insight align with the group’s ambition to redefine hospitality through innovation, wellness integration, and responsible business practices.
