‘At least Igbos will rest’- reactions as Lagos indigenes protest against fellow Yorubas from other states taking titles

Some angry individuals, said to be indigenes of Lagos State were seen on Tuesday, protesting against other Yoruba state, accusing them of taking up all their traditional titles and positions in the state.

According to community representatives, most of those responsible for political tension, land disputes, and social conflicts in Lagos are not natives of the state but Yorubas who relocated from other southwestern states to settle in the commercial capital.

“They come to our land, occupy major positions, even claim traditional titles such as Obas, and in the end, bring a bad name to us, the real indigenes of Lagos, Oba Ijora is from Ekiti, none of them created Lagos one of the community leaders lamented.

The indigenes further alleged that over the years, outsiders have infiltrated Lagos’ traditional and political structures, sidelining the ancestral families and exploiting the city’s economic opportunities at their expense.

They called on the state government and relevant authorities to protect the rights and cultural identity of Omo Eko, insisting that Lagos must not lose its heritage under the weight of migration and political manipulation.

@tokunboopute: One of the reasons I don’t play race, tribe, or bigotry is because it’s a double-edged sword.

Whichever side you choose eventually cuts back at you.
The moment you become part of a cycle that fuels negativity, it always finds its way back.
Funny how life works, what you give out always returns, one way or another.
That’s pure life
