The Nigerian Army has confirmed that Cameroonian military personnel who crossed into Danare Community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State have withdrawn after swift intervention by Nigerian troops.
The Army said troops from the Forward Operating Base in Danare responded after reports that Cameroonian soldiers had entered Nigerian territory, causing concern among residents of the border community.
In a statement, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lt. Col. Olabisi Olalekan, said military authorities immediately contacted their Cameroonian counterparts, leading to the prompt withdrawal of the foreign troops in line with established border protocols.
The Army said preliminary findings showed that the incident was linked to a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland located between Danare Community in Nigeria and Dadi Community in Cameroon.
To avoid a repeat of the incident, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division has directed the Commander of 13 Brigade to engage Cameroonian military authorities on stronger border coordination and clearer operational procedures along the international boundary.
The Army assured residents that the situation was calm and under control, stressing that it remained committed to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and safeguarding border communities.
It urged residents of Danare and neighbouring communities to remain peaceful, go about their lawful activities and avoid spreading unverified information capable of heightening tension.
