Former Anambra State Governor and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has clarified his billionaire status, saying he is a billionaire when measured in Nigerian naira but not in US dollars.
Obi made the clarification during an interview after the interviewer directly asked him whether he was a billionaire or not.
Asked, “Are you a billionaire or are you not a billionaire?”
Obi responded:
“Yes, I’m a billionaire in Naira. But not in dollars. You know they usually measure billionaires in dollars. But in Naira, yes. Capital yes.”
His comment suggests that while his wealth and assets may place him in the billionaire category when denominated in naira, he does not consider himself a US-dollar billionaire.
The statement comes amid recurring public discussions about Obi’s wealth, business background and financial standing, particularly in relation to his years in politics and his claims about his financial position before entering public office.

It always amazes me when I see people get carried away because PeterObi chooses to live a frugal humble life then they assume he’s not rich. pic.twitter.com/udQZMXqo59
