Chairman of FlowFM 92.7 and the Stefolga Group, Araba Femi Sanni, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of seven journalists who lost their lives in a fatal road accident in the Gombe South area of Gombe State.
The accident, which involved members of the Gombe State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), also left four others injured.
In a statement made available to the press, Sanni described the incident as a painful blow to the media profession and the nation at large. He extended heartfelt condolences to the NUJ leadership, the families of the deceased journalists, and media colleagues in Gombe and Adamawa states, while offering prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured survivors.
“The loss of journalists in the line of duty or while pursuing professional engagements is a tragedy that touches the conscience of the nation,” he said.
Sanni also expressed sympathy with world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, following the death of some of his close associates in a separate road accident along the Lagos–Sagamu Expressway.
He noted that such personal losses are deeply testing, even for the strongest individuals.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Anthony Joshua and the bereaved families at this difficult time. May they find strength, comfort and healing,” he stated.
Reflecting on both tragedies, Sanni said the incidents serve as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need for greater caution, empathy and mutual support within society.
As the new year approaches, he called on Nigerians to embrace collective reflection and prayer, urging divine protection on the nation’s roads, in homes and workplaces, and across all daily pursuits.
“These moments of grief should unite us in compassion and remind us to value life, one another, and the responsibilities we share as a people,” Sanni added.
