The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP) in Nigeria has opened a new call for project concepts under its Operational Phase 8 (OP8), offering eligible organisations grants of up to US$75,000 for environmental and sustainable development projects.
The programme is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and supports local action addressing environmental challenges while improving livelihoods and community resilience.
The programme covers areas including biodiversity, climate change mitigation and adaptation, land degradation, international waters, and chemicals and waste. Proposed projects should pilot solutions, strengthen livelihoods, build resilience and support wider environmental action in communities nationwide.
Under the call, selected projects may receive between 18 and 36 months of support, with projects expected to demonstrate innovative approaches to environmental management and sustainable development. Applicants must also provide evidence of secured co-financing on at least a one-to-one basis, either in cash or in-kind.
Following the review of submitted concepts, shortlisted organisations will receive Technical Proposal and Financial Proposal templates to develop detailed proposals.
Eligibility
The opportunity is open to registered local communities and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), including national Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs). Applicant organisations must have at least three years of relevant environmental management experience.
