ApiLifestyle: ‘Detty December’ can boost Nigeria’s entertainment economy

Adewunmi Gabriels, the nightlife promoter better known as ApiLifestyle, says the ‘Detty December’ festival can significantly transform the Nigerian entertainment economy.

In a recent statement, the entertainer spoke about the economic benefits of the festival, including logistics income and ticketing at concerts.

ApiLifestyle said the concert has also extended into different cities like Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja.

He said the festival, which started as a “return-home culture”, has become a moment to spotlight the Nigerian art, fashion, and music.

The showbiz entrepreneur said Detty December mirrors how Nigerians “express gratitude, reclaim joy, and connect through shared experience”.

He added that the festival has given rise to a structured entertainment economy.

He said it has become a spontaneous gatherings with sophisticated productions powered by digital innovation.

He said showbiz companies provide platforms to drive access, allowing audiences to discover, plan, and secure entry into the most anticipated events of the season.

He argued that nightlife, fashion, and entertainment have become drivers of urban culture and economic activity.

“With ticketing and event management integrated, Detty December has become a calendarised ecosystem of experiences rather than a cluster of parties,” he said.

”This evolution speaks to something bigger: Nigeria’s maturing relationship with leisure. The lines between business, creativity, and celebration are blurring.

“Detty December is not just about escape, it’s about presence. It’s about being seen, being connected, and celebrating progress in spaces that feel thoughtfully crafted.

“Every December, the country reminds the world that its creative rhythm is relentless, its sense of community unbreakable.”

‘Detty December’ is an annual celebration held during festive period, with concerts held in different parts of Nigeria.

It is argued that concertgoers refer to the period as a moment to “unwind” for the year.
