APC sweeps Ogun councillorship bye-election as Osho wins Ikenne ward seat

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a landslide victory in the councillorship bye-election held in Iperu III Ward 5, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, as Monsuru Osho emerged winner in a contest that was largely one-sided.

The election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of former councillor, Nurudeen Bakare, and was held across 18 polling units within the ward.

APC Dominates With Near-Total Vote Sweep

Announcing the result, the Returning Officer of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Olusogo Otelaja, declared Monsuru Osho of the APC as the clear winner after polling 1,730 votes out of 1,741 total valid votes cast.

The figures showed a wide gap between the APC and opposition parties.

APC: 1,730 votes

PDP: 5 votes

ADC: 4 votes

The outcome effectively confirmed APC’s overwhelming dominance in the exercise, leaving little competition from rival parties.

Peaceful Election With Tight Security Presence

According to the electoral body, voting began at 8:00 a.m. and proceeded smoothly across all polling units in the ward.

Security operatives were deployed across strategic points to maintain order, a move that contributed to what officials described as a peaceful and incident-free process.

The Returning Officer also confirmed that the election was orderly, with no significant disruptions reported during voting or collation.

OGSIEC Hails Credible Conduct

The Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, Babatunde Osibodu, represented by Commissioner Gbemi Onasanya, commended the exercise, describing it as peaceful, free, and credible.

He praised electoral officials, security agencies, and residents for their conduct, noting that the process reflected growing confidence in local elections within the state.

Similarly, the Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Jamiu Asimi, applauded OGSIEC for what he called a well-organised and transparent bye-election.
