APC primaries: Lawal seeks prayers, support from Zamfara leaders

By Shuaib Sadiq

Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has called for sustained unity and support from leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure a peaceful 2027 general elections.

Lawal made the appeal shortly after formally accepting his nomination as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that more than 301,000 party members across the 14 local government areas affirmed Lawal as the party’s sole candidate for the poll.

Lawal stressed the importance of divine guidance in leadership, noting that leaders often face challenges beyond their immediate knowledge and visibility.

“With divine intervention as well as support from leaders and the people, the multiple challenges facing the state will be addressed,” he said.

The governor expressed concern over the harsh realities faced by rural communities, which he said he witnessed during visits across the state.

“There are things we do not know, things we do not see, and places we do not go. But when you witness how some people survive, you begin to reflect deeply on the responsibility of leadership,” he said.

Describing leadership as a burden that requires wisdom, strength, and constant reliance on God, Lawal emphasized the need for prayers to guide leaders in making impactful decisions.

“We will continue to pray to Almighty Allah to guide us, strengthen us with wisdom, and enable us to serve humanity effectively. Leaders need prayers,” he added.

“We need to tell our story and reach out to the people. This process requires the support of everyone,” he said.

While expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious, Lawal acknowledged that the journey ahead would not be easy.

Accepting the nomination, he pledged loyalty to the APC and assured members that his administration would lead by example.

“Insha Allah, we will not fail the party. We will provide leadership that others will seek to emulate,” he stated.

Lawal thanked key political stakeholders, including former governors and party leaders, for their support, which he said made the process smooth and successful.

“I remain deeply grateful for the cooperation and support I have received. Without it, this achievement would have been difficult. Today, we have come together under one umbrella to celebrate,” he said.

He also commended the party’s primary election committee for conducting a peaceful and seamless process. He assured the committee, led by Baba Galadima-Uba, that all its observations would be addressed.
