According to a report by Daily Post News, on Monday, March 09, 2026,George Ashiru, Lagos State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, has said the party is preparing to challenge the long-standing political dominance of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos ahead of the 2027 governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Ashiru said the party has intensified mobilisation efforts across the state while expanding its membership base.
He stated that the strategy is aimed at strengthening the party’s structure in different communities as political activities gradually begin to take shape ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Ashiru explained that the party has focused on building a broader political coalition since last year.
According to him, leaders of the party have been engaging new members and integrating supporters who recently joined from other political platforms.
He noted that the mobilisation process has continued across various local government areas and wards as the party prepares for future elections.
He stated that several individuals who previously belonged to other political parties have joined the ADC in Lagos.
Ashiru said members from different groups decided to align with the party after consultations and political engagements.
He explained that the integration process involves working with new entrants while strengthening cooperation among existing members.
Ashiru said the party began a large mobilisation campaign after unveiling a coalition initiative in July last year.
He stated, “Since we unveiled the coalition last July, we have been on a marathon mobilisation, getting new members and integrating partner members who have come in from other parties including Labour, PDP, APC, SDP and Accord, as many believe we are stronger together.”
He added that the party’s activities have included expanding its grassroots presence and strengthening coordination among supporters across the state.
Ashiru noted that the growing participation of members from different political backgrounds has increased the party’s organisational capacity.
He also said the movement of members from several parties reflects the political realignment taking place ahead of future elections.
Ashiru also referred to recent political developments in the state while discussing the party’s expectations for the next electoral contest.
He said past election outcomes in Lagos demonstrate that political competition in the state remains possible.
According to him, electoral results have shown that established political structures can face strong challenges during elections.
He further stated that the party believes its increasing grassroots engagement and membership expansion will support its efforts in the coming polls.
Ashiru noted that continued mobilisation, collaboration with new members, and strengthened local structures remain central to the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship and House of Assembly elections in Lagos.See_More…
