Elder statesman and businessman, Olorogun Morrison Olori, has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s tax reforms as the boldest economic initiative since Nigeria’s independence.
Speaking at a press briefing in Ughelli, Olori, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the reforms stand out as the administration’s most significant achievement to date, stressing that they will drive rapid economic development.
“President Tinubu deserves commendation for these audacious tax reforms. No Nigerian leader has taken such a daring decision in the country’s history,” Olori said. “As a businessman with over 60 years of experience, this is the best decision any Nigerian President could make.”
Olori, an investor in real estate, hospitality, and oil and gas, argued that sound economic policies — especially tax reforms — are critical for national growth. He noted that Tinubu assumed office amid what he described as “a dead economy” inherited from former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Governments at all levels were struggling to pay salaries and execute projects. But with the removal of fuel subsidy, surplus funds are now available, even at the grassroots level,” he said.
He added that the reforms would help resolve long-standing issues such as multiple taxation and under-taxation, which have discouraged investors. “Many foreign investors will return to Nigeria because of these measures,” he said.
Olori, however, urged transparency and sincerity in implementing the reforms to ensure long-term success.
The APC stalwart also praised the performances of key cabinet members. He lauded Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as “unprecedented infrastructural growth” in Abuja, and Minister of Aviation, Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN), for expanding Nigeria’s aviation sector.
“If Wike remains minister beyond 2027, Abuja will witness growth unmatched in history,” Olori said, adding that Keyamo’s leadership has improved airports nationwide and positioned Nigeria more competitively in global aviation.
Olori also commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for infrastructural development and fostering peace among ethnic groups in the state, predicting his re-election in 2027.
