The Nigeria Customs Service’s Apapa Area Command has raised its single-day revenue record by almost 40% to N28.1 billion on August 18, 2026 as receipts from Nigeria’s busiest port continue to climb.
The latest collection represents an increase of about N8 billion from the command’s previous one-day record of N20.1 billion, set in September 2025.
An Naijaonpoint calculation shows that the difference translates to a 39.8% increase, establishing a new high for revenue generated by the command within a 24-hour period.
The performance comes shortly after Apapa Customs closed July with N323 billion in revenue, indicating that collections at the command have maintained strong momentum into August.
Apapa occupies a central position in Nigeria’s customs revenue structure because of the scale of commercial cargo passing through the port.
Historical Nigeria Customs Service data also show the command has consistently ranked as the largest contributor among customs commands.
In 2025, Apapa generated N2.93 trillion, representing a 24.32% increase from N2.36 trillion in the preceding year.
The latest daily record therefore builds on a broader expansion in collections rather than an isolated increase.
The command attributed the improved performance to stronger compliance, greater use of digital processes, trade reforms and intelligence-led enforcement.
Customs Area Controller Emmanuel Oshoba said the emphasis would remain on increasing government revenue without creating unnecessary obstacles for legitimate trade.
The challenge for the command is particularly important given Apapa’s dual role as a major revenue collection point and a gateway for businesses importing raw materials, machinery, consumer products and other goods into the country.
Higher customs collections strengthen federally collected revenue, but efficient cargo processing remains critical for businesses seeking to minimise clearance delays and logistics costs.
The command said it would continue efforts to improve trade facilitation while strengthening compliance and revenue collection.
The N28.1 billion generated on August 18 now stands as Apapa Customs’ highest recorded daily collection, exceeding the previous N20.1 billion benchmark by approximately N8 billion.
With July already producing a record N323 billion monthly collection, the latest performance puts attention on whether the command can sustain the pace through the remainder of 2026.
