Anxiety over Owa of Igbajo’s deteriorating health condition

There is rising apprehension in the Igbajo community, Boluwaduro local government area of Osun State, following concerns about the health of the embattled Owa of Igbajo, Oba Adegboyega Famodun.

Oba Famodun, a former Osun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was appointed monarch in the twilight of the administration of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola but was later removed through an Executive Order issued by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Governor Adeleke later installed Oba Ademola Makinde as Owa Igbajo in his place.

In January 2025, the Osun State High Court reinstated Oba Famodun to the throne, though the ruling remains the subject of an ongoing legal challenge at the appellate court.

A community source revealed on Saturday that the monarch had been rushed to a hospital in Abuja for treatment over an undisclosed illness.

According to the source, anxiety escalated when his condition reportedly worsened on Friday evening, prompting widespread concern across the community.

Another senior community figure who carved anonymity confirmed that many residents had become unsettled by the development, especially given the prolonged disputes surrounding the throne.

When contacted, the Oluomo of Igbajo, Chief Sunday Akere, said the monarch’s family members were at his bedside in the hospital.

He added that he had limited information about the situation.

“The princes are the ones who can give you more information about our king,” he said.

Meanwhile, many notable names within and outside political circles in the state have taken to their social media handles to circulate news that the embattled monarch had died.

However, the APC in the state and members of his immediate family are yet to comment or confirm the development.
