According to a report by The Vanguard on Sunday, March 8, 2026, the Nigeria Police Force has entered a new era of communication following the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid as the Force Public Relations Officer.
His appointment comes on the heels of the swearing-in of the new Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, marking a major leadership reshuffle at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
DCP Anthony Placid is not just a career officer; he is a scholar. Born in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in 1970, he holds a degree from the University of Uyo and a Master’s in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos. He further expanded his legal expertise by studying law at the National Open University.
Placid joined the force in 1996 and has spent nearly three decades climbing the ranks. His career is distinguished by significant international exposure, having served in high-profile United Nations and African Union missions in Sudan and Darfur.
Before his latest promotion, Placid held various tactical roles across Nigeria. He has served as a DPO in several divisions and was the Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State.
Notably, he is a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), having graduated from the prestigious Senior Executive Course 47 in December 2025.
Beyond the uniform, the new police spokesperson is a family man and a sports enthusiast. He is known for his love of football, basketball, and table tennis.
With his vast experience in international relations and local policing, many expect Placid to bring a fresh, diplomatic approach to the image of the Nigeria Police Force.See_More…
