Human rights activist Annkio Briggs has accused former Rivers State sole administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas of mismanaging public funds during his six-month tenure.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Briggs said Ibas must explain how the state’s resources were used.
“He spent our money. He has to account to the people of Rivers State, even to Nigerians, for the sake of integrity and justice,” she said.
Briggs argued that no official should leave office without providing transparency on state finances. “You can’t come into a state, control its resources and funds, stay there for six months, and just walk away as if you were never there,” she added.
She emphasized that the funds belonged to the people. “He was here for six months, and within that period he spent our money. That’s the truth,” she stated.
The allegations add to ongoing debates over accountability and governance in Rivers State following Ibas’s tenure.
Ibas, who served as the sole administrator, has not yet publicly responded to the claims.
Briggs insisted that transparency was vital for fairness and to restore public trust in state institutions.
The issue has drawn attention as Rivers State continues to face political and economic challenges.
Observers say the case could test the state’s mechanisms for accountability and financial oversight.
