The Kano State Government on Monday congratulated African Independent Television (AIT) on its 29th anniversary, describing the station as a strategic partner in Nigeria’s nation‑building efforts.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, on Monday in Kano.
Yusuf praised AIT for almost three decades of its professional and impactful broadcasting that had shaped public opinion and promoted national development.
He highlighted AIT’s pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture by providing citizens with credible information, encouraging civic awareness and promoting active participation in governance.
The governor said that the station’s editorial direction had contributed to value re‑orientation through programmes that emphasise ethics, national unity, social responsibility and respect for the country’s diversity.
“AIT has also nurtured informed public discourse, amplified citizens’ voices and supported transparent governance through balanced reporting and thought‑provoking analysis.
“He further acknowledged the station’s consistent and fair coverage of developments in Kano State, which has kept the public informed about government policies, programmes and achievements.
“The governor extended appreciation to AIT’s management, editors, journalists and staff for upholding professionalism, ethics and responsible broadcasting over the years.
“As the station marks 29 years, the government urged AIT to remain committed to truth, objectivity and national cohesion, especially amid the evolving challenges in the media landscape.
In a related development, Yusuf felicitated Premier Radio 102.7 on the station’s fourth anniversary, describing it as a reputable, professional and people‑focused broadcast organisation.
The governor praised Premier Radio for its commitment to ethical journalism, accuracy and balanced reportage.
He said that the station had consistently maintained editorial independence and fairness in its programming, earning public trust through unbiased news coverage.
Yusuf pointed out that Premier Radio gave equal opportunity for diverse opinions and adherence to the principles of objectivity and responsibility in broadcasting.
The governor said that Premier Radio had played a vital role in promoting peace, unity and informed public discourse, serving as a reliable platform for citizens’ engagement.
He congratulated the station’s chairman, Malam Abba Dabo, for his visionary leadership and sustained investment in credible journalism.
Yusuf highlighted Dabo’s dedication to mentoring young journalists, building professional capacity and fostering a culture of integrity within the broadcast industry.
