Anna Paquin is speaking up after the recent deaths of some child stars and calling out the industry.
The actress reflected on how quickly young performers can be treated differently once the industry starts viewing them as sexualized adults. Paquin’s rant comes after the sad passing of former child stars like Hayden Panettiere, Michelle Trachtenberg and Daveigh Chase.

Paquin shared a powerful message about the experiences of female performers who were sexualized before they were ready. She argued that the entertainment industry’s systems may look protective on paper but do not always protect young actresses in practice.
She mentioned how her former female child stars whose lives ended tragically. Her message named Hayden Panettiere, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Daveigh Chase through their initials, “HP,” “MT,” and “DC.” The actress said they all belong to a “strange small club,” and everyone deserves support.
“It’s not a coincidence that so many former, specifically pre-sexualized female, ‘child stars’ have profoundly sad lives and untimely ends,” Paquin wrote. In the Instagram post, she also offered support to women who may have experienced similar treatment and encouraged them to reach out to her directly.
The “American Dog” actress later clarified in her caption that she was speaking specifically about being a child on set and prematurely becoming a “sex object.”
Paquin stressed that she was not suggesting that these experiences only happen within entertainment. She explained that she had run out of space when using the women’s initials and said there was “Nothing to be read into” about that choice.

Paquin’s post drew reactions from fans who agreed with the point she was making. Some fans thanked her for speaking about the issue. Some other fans dropped love emojis to show support and agreement with her post.
One commenter wrote, “thank you for speaking out,” while pointing to the timing of speaking out before untimely deaths. The fan specifically mentioned Trachtenberg and Chase, wishing their souls to rest in peace.
Another person pushed back on the use of initials. “Say their names, please. Let’s not reduce these women to a few letters. Say their names,” the commenter wrote. The reactions showed that Paquin’s message opened a wider conversation about how sensitive people are about the topic.

Panettiere and Trachtenberg shared a connection that was deeper than their work together. The actresses knew each other as children because their families lived near each other in Brooklyn. They later starred together in the 2005 Disney movie “Ice Princess.”

She described herself as “somewhere in the middle” of the two personalities, while recalling the demanding schedule they shared while filming the movie. Trachtenberg died in February 2025, while Panettiere died in August 2026.

Chase’s mother, Cathy Chase, had previously spoken about her daughter’s addiction struggles. She said those problems began after a motorcycle accident around 2016, when Chase was prescribed pain medication. The Blast reported that friends had spent years trying to reconnect with Chase, while her mother continued searching for her after they lost contact.
