Anambra police arrest three over armed robbery, drug peddling, cultism

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit, VCRU, have arrested three suspects in separate operations linked to armed robbery, drug trafficking, and cult-related activities.

The command also recovered a locally made firearm, ammunition, suspected cannabis, and other items.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the first arrest occurred at midday on Thursday, June 19, 2026. VCRU officers on patrol along the Igbariam/Achalla Road intercepted two men, Williams Ndifon and David Missang, both 27 years old, while they were riding a Daylong motorcycle.

A search of the suspects led to the recovery of: one locally made Beretta pistol, one live ammunition, one Daylong motorcycle, six GSM phones, two power banks, one sledgehammer and one chisel/metal crack tool.

Also recovered were quantities of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and one black polo shirt with “Nigeria Army Barracks Youths Foundation, NABYF” inscription

In a related operation on the same day at about 6:00 pm, VCRU operatives acting on intelligence arrested 21-year-old Oluchukwu Onyekwe at Agukwu Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area. He was found in possession of “appreciable quantities of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.” Preliminary investigations also linked him to cult-related activities in the area.

SP Ikenga said all three suspects remain in custody while further interrogation and investigations continue.

The Police Command urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to help improve public safety and security across the state.
