The Anambra State Information and Communication Technology Agency has deployed 25 live WiFi hotspots across the state, advancing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s digitisation agenda.
The agency’s Managing Director, Fred Agbata, announced the development on Friday during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Awka.
Agbata said the initiative, known as the “Solution WiFi” project, fulfills Soludo’s campaign pledge to expand internet access in public places such as schools, lodges, government institutions, and community spaces.
“These hotspots are not just infrastructure; they are lifelines. They democratise internet access for students, traders, civil servants, and everyday Ndi Anambra, bridging information divides and fostering inclusion,” Agbata said.
The sites include major locations such as Aroma Junction, Eke Awka, UNIZIK Junction, Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, the College of Health Obosi, and the Jerome Udorji Secretariat, among others.
Agbata explained that the ICT Agency was created to drive the state’s digital transformation by coordinating technology initiatives that make governance more efficient and transparent. He noted that executive council proceedings have already been fully digitised, reducing paper-based processes.
He added that ministries, departments, and agencies now benefit from digital platforms introduced by the agency, enabling faster and smarter civil service operations.
“The story of Anambra’s digital transformation is still unfolding, but the foundation has been laid,” he said. “From the ‘Solution WiFi’ initiative to the digitisation of governance, what we are building is a future where technology works for the people.”
Agbata urged the media to continue monitoring the state’s digital reforms, stressing their role in accountability and public awareness.
