The Anambra State Government has strongly denied reports linking the governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, to an alleged ₦38 million contract scandal at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.
In a statement released in Awka, the governor’s media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
He urged the public to disregard the reports, which he said were designed to damage the First Lady’s reputation.
Clarification on contract process
The government clarified that Anambra does not operate an official Office of the First Lady and has never appointed aides to act in that capacity.
It further explained that Mrs Soludo has no involvement in government contract processes and no link to the ₦38 million project referenced in the claims.
The statement also emphasised that the awarding of honorary degrees at the university is the sole responsibility of its Senate and Governing Council, not the Vice Chancellor acting alone.
Politics and defence of integrity
According to the statement, the allegations are part of a wider campaign to smear the governor’s family ahead of political contests.
The government described Mrs Soludo as a woman of integrity and urged citizens to resist attempts to drag her into manufactured scandals.
Officials stressed that the First Lady remains focused on her humanitarian work, particularly health and women’s empowerment initiatives across Anambra State.
