Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the Nigerian Army with sophisticated weapons and critical military equipment to address emerging security threats across the country.
Alia made the commendation on Thursday while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.
According to the governor, the provision of modern weapons and military assets will significantly enhance the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army in tackling security challenges.
Speaking during the visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu assured the governor that the Nigerian Army was strengthening its operational capabilities to deliver improved security outcomes across Benue State and other parts of the country.
He noted that the acquisition of modern weapons and combat enablers, made possible through the support of President Tinubu, would boost the effectiveness of troops in combating insecurity.
The Army Chief also commended the government and people of Benue State for their resilience and sustained support for security agencies despite the security challenges confronting parts of the state.
Shaibu particularly appreciated the cooperation extended to troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE, noting that such collaboration had contributed significantly to ongoing military operations.
He appealed to residents and the state government to sustain close cooperation with the military and other security agencies to ensure lasting peace and stability.
Responding, Governor Alia described the visit as timely and reassuring, particularly at a period when intensified security efforts are required.
He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to continue supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in their efforts to curb criminal activities and restore peace in the state.
