Ajowa-Akoko school, students receive major interventions from alumni group

The Comprehensive High School Ajowa-Akoko Old Students Association (CHSA) has marked its 46th anniversary with the renovation of classrooms, distribution of educational materials, and the presentation of about ₦1 million in prizes to outstanding students.

The three-day 2026 anniversary celebration also featured a career mentorship session, with the alumni association using the occasion to support teaching and learning at the school.

According to a statement, the association renovated dilapidated classrooms, including floor tiling, installation of new aluminum windows, and replacement of asbestos roofing to provide a safer learning environment.

The alumni also distributed customized school bags containing notebooks and other writing materials to newly admitted JSS1 students, while educational materials were provided for students in JSS2 and JSS3.

The celebration featured a career mentorship session led by Professor Kehinde Owojobi, an alumnus of the 1985 set, who encouraged students to set career goals early and develop the discipline and perseverance needed to achieve them.

Outstanding students in various subjects also received cash and material prizes valued at about ₦1 million.

Speaking on the initiative, the National President of the Old Students Association, Samuel Olojo, said the intervention was an investment in the future of the community.

“This template is designed not just to reward top marks but to foster healthy competition and build the character needed for our students to compete favorably at local, state, and national levels,” Olojo stated.

He added that sustainable development of the school required collaboration among the alumni association, the Parent-Teacher Association, and the wider community.

The association also renovated and expanded the principal’s office as part of efforts to improve the school’s administrative capacity.

The principal, Mrs Kikelomo Olaleye, expressed appreciation for the alumni’s continued interventions, saying they had contributed significantly to improving educational delivery in the school.

Olaleye urged the students to reciprocate the gesture by remaining committed to their studies.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the Head Prefect, Taiwo Folorunso, said the gifts and infrastructure provided by the old students would serve as a source of motivation.

He assured the association that the students would uphold good moral conduct and strive for academic excellence.

The anniversary ended with an Annual General Meeting attended by alumni from different parts of Nigeria and the diaspora.

The meeting focused on long-term development projects for the school, with the association disclosing that work was ongoing on the construction of a digital library and plans for a multi-purpose school hall.

The projects, according to the association, are aimed at improving access to technology and providing additional facilities for academic and institutional activities.
