Aisha Yesufu Criticizes Senate Over Akpoti-Uduaghan Office Reopening

Aisha Yesufu

Convener of the now-defunct BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) advocacy group, Aisha Yesufu, has accused the Senate of compromising its independence.

Yesufu made the remark in response to the unsealing of the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central. The reopening of Room 205 in the Senate Wing suggests that the suspended lawmaker may soon resume her official duties ahead of the resumption of plenary on October 7, 2025.

The office was reopened by the National Assembly’s Sergeant at Arms, assisted by a combined team of security operatives. Akpoti-Uduaghan was previously suspended following her allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Reacting to the development on X, Yesufu wrote: “The Senate has allowed itself to be used. Hope they get their independence.”
