Airtel Africa Foundation, in partnership with Airtel Nigeria, has launched a landmark scholarship initiative offering 100 full scholarships to Nigerian undergraduates pursuing technology-related disciplines in public universities across the country.
Unveiled in Lagos by Airtel Africa Chairman, Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, the Undergraduate Tech Scholarship Programme will fully cover tuition, accommodation, study materials, and a living stipend from the students’ first year through graduation. The initiative aims to remove financial barriers and promote digital inclusion among Nigeria’s youth.
According to Airtel, the scholarships target first-year students in fields such as Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering, among other ICT-related courses.
Participating universities include University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), University of Benin (UNIBEN), University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), and Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).
Dr. Ogunsanya described the initiative as a key part of Airtel’s mission to empower young Africans and nurture future leaders in technology.“At Airtel Africa Foundation, our vision has always been to create opportunities where talent meets ambition,” he said. “Through this initiative, we are investing in Nigeria’s future tech leaders, giving them the resources and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world.”
Also speaking at the event, Airtel Nigeria CEO, Dinesh Balsingh, said the scholarship reinforces the company’s commitment to quality education and digital empowerment.“Education remains a cornerstone of our community investments. These scholarships reflect our mission to foster inclusive, high-quality learning and technological growth,” he stated.
The programme forms part of the Airtel Africa Foundation’s FEED Strategy—which focuses on Financial Inclusion, Education, Environmental Protection, and Digital Inclusion. It also complements ongoing partnerships such as UNICEF’s Reimagine Education initiative and the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, underscoring Airtel’s broader commitment to digital transformation in Africa.
