The management of Air Peace has announced 1,000 new job opportunities for Nigerian graduates through its Graduate Trainee Programme, following the Federal Government’s recent suspension of the 4% import levy on airlines and other sectors.
The airline’s Chairman, Allen Onyema, described the move as a “lifeline” for the aviation industry, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Finance Minister Wale Edun for listening to the concerns of industry stakeholders.
Suspension of Import Levy as Relief for Airlines
Onyema explained that the suspension of the controversial levy followed complaints from manufacturers, importers, and clearing agents, who had warned that the policy would worsen inflation, cripple trade competitiveness, and threaten investments.
“The suspension removes a heavy burden that could have crippled airlines and triggered massive job losses,” Onyema stated. “In turn, Air Peace is reciprocating this kind gesture by creating 1,000 fresh graduate jobs for young Nigerians.”
He further stressed that the move demonstrated how government-private sector collaboration could drive real economic growth and safeguard industries.
Graduate Trainee Programme Opens Applications
Announcing the Graduate Trainee Programme, Onyema said the initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with practical exposure, mentorship, and essential skills to thrive in aviation and related sectors.
According to the airline, applicants must:
- Be 30 years or younger at the time of application.
- Hold at least a Second Class Lower (2:2) in any discipline from a recognised university.
- Possess an NYSC discharge, exclusion, or exemption certificate.
- Show adaptability, passion, and a willingness to learn.
