The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5, AIG Salman-Dogo Garba, has retired from the force after a remarkable and distinguished career spanning more than three decades.
Garba who officially retired from the force on July 21, encouraged office and men of the zone to embrace community policing, intelligence-led operations, and ethical leadership in the discharge of their constitutional duties
This is contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in charge of the zone, SP Tijani Momoh, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja on Friday.
Momoh said that the retired AIG gave the advice at a send-forth party organised in his honour on Thursday evening in Benin by personnel of the zone.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the zone comprised Edo and Delta.
He also urged the officers and men of the zone to remain steadfast in their commitment to discipline, professionalism, respect for the rule of law, and protection of the rights of all citizens.
While thanking residents of Edo and Delta for their cooperation with the police over the years, Garba called on them to sustain their support for the force by providing credible and timely information that would aid crime prevention and ensure safer communities.
The outgone AIG while reflecting on his years in service, noted that it had been a rare privilege to serve the nation in different capacities.
He described his career as fulfilling and rewarding, adding that every achievement recorded was made possible through teamwork, dedication, and the collective support of colleagues and stakeholders.
He reaffirmed his unwavering faith in the Nigeria Police Force and expressed confidence that the institution would continue to evolve into a more professional, people-oriented, and globally respected organisation under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police.
Garba expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the force and enhancing national security.
The retired AIG also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the members of the Force Management Team for the confidence reposed in him and the invaluable support and guidance received throughout his career.
He further appreciated the Chairman and Members of the Police Service Commission for their steadfast commitment to professionalism, accountability, and institutional development within the Nigeria Police Force.
He also thanked the governors of Edo and Delta, Monday Okpebholo and Sheriff Oborevwori, respectively for their outstanding cooperation, unwavering support, and cordial working relationship with the zonal Headquarters throughout his tenure.
According to him, the strong partnership between the state governments and the police significantly contributed to improved security, public safety, and effective policing across the two states.
He further appreciated the Commissioners of Police in both states, as well as Tactical Commanders, officers, and men of both commands, and personnel of zone 5 headquarters, for their loyalty, dedication, teamwork, and unwavering commitment in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
The zone 5 headquarters wished the retired AIG a peaceful, healthy, and fulfilling retirement, while acknowledging his immense contributions to the growth of the Nigerian police and the security of the nation.
NAN reports that Garba’s retirement was marked with a colourful Pulling-Out Parade on July 21.
The send-forth party was attended by senior serving and retired police officers, government officials, traditional rulers, heads of sister security agencies, business communities, captains of industries, family members, friends, and well-wishers.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
