The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) concluded with Senegal emerging champions and individual honours awarded to standout performers across the tournament. The competition delivered high drama, controversy and record-breaking moments, culminating in a tense final that crowned the best teams and players in African football.
Senegal claimed their second AFCON title after a controversial 1–0 extra-time victory over hosts Morocco in the final. Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal, while Morocco were left frustrated after missing a penalty in a match that sparked intense debate and reactions across the continent.
Senegal captain Sadio Mané was named Player of the Tournament (Golden Ball) following a series of influential performances that underpinned his team’s title run. His leadership and consistency proved decisive throughout the competition.
Despite losing the final, Morocco dominated several individual categories. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (Bono) won the Best Goalkeeper award, while Brahim Díaz claimed the Golden Boot after scoring five goals, becoming the first player in AFCON history to score in five consecutive matches in a single tournament.
Morocco also received the Fair Play Award in recognition of their sportsmanship and discipline during AFCON 2025, rounding off a strong tournament campaign despite falling short of the title.
