Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on the recent leadership controversy within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), likening the situation to inheriting a used vehicle with multiple mechanical issues.
Sani’s remarks come in the wake of the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from their positions as national leaders of the ADC, following a court ruling.
Reacting to the development, the former lawmaker used a metaphor to describe the challenges facing those taking over an existing political party structure.
“When you buy or inherit a used vehicle, you’ll have to deal with problems associated with the engine, brake pads, tyres, shaft, filter and other things,” Sani stated. “That is the situation of the ADC. That is the difference between registering a new party and inheriting an old one.”
His comments highlight concerns about internal complexities and structural issues within political parties, particularly those undergoing leadership changes or being repositioned by new actors.
The analogy has sparked conversations among political observers, many of whom see it as a reflection of the broader challenges associated with party administration, legacy issues, and internal cohesion.
As political realignments continue ahead of future elections, the ADC remains under scrutiny, with stakeholders closely watching how the party navigates its leadership challenges in the aftermath of the court-backed decision by INEC.
