A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has petitioned the court to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the David Mark-led leadership of the party.
The faction is requesting that the court instead formally recognize the acting National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, and his leadership structure.
Bala’s Special Adviser on Strategic Communication, Abimiku Monday, stated this during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday. He revealed that the matter is scheduled for hearing on September 30.
“We want the court to restrain INEC from recognizing the David Mark-led faction. We want the court to recognize the Nafiu Bala-led leadership structure,” he said.
When asked if he accepts INEC’s recognition of the Mark-led faction, Monday replied, “I won’t say yes 100%.”
He further explained that the leadership dispute began in July when certain politicians from other parties allegedly tried to infiltrate and hijack the ADC’s structure. Monday emphasized that party membership in Nigeria follows a structured process starting from the Ward level, and cannot be assumed from the top.
