The African Democratic Congress has officially begun a free nationwide online membership registration drive as part of its early preparations for the 2027 general elections. The initiative is accompanied by the introduction of a new digital portal designed to simplify the registration process and broaden participation across the country.
In a statement released on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC explained that the digital transition forms part of its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and compliance with existing electoral regulations. According to the party, the new online platform will make it easier for Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to join the party without the need for physical registration at ward or local government offices.
The statement also directed all existing members of the party to update and revalidate their membership details through the newly launched portal. The directive, the party noted, is in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 as well as the operational guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission. By ensuring that its membership database is accurate and up to date, the ADC aims to strengthen its internal structures ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Party officials described the digital registration initiative as a strategic move to position the ADC more effectively for the forthcoming elections. They emphasized that the exercise is not only about increasing membership numbers but also about building a credible and verifiable database that aligns with national electoral standards. The online process is expected to reduce administrative bottlenecks, eliminate duplication of records, and improve coordination between national and state chapters.
Meanwhile, preparations for the 2027 general elections have already begun to take shape following announcements by the electoral umpire. PUNCH Online had earlier reported that on February 13, INEC initially scheduled the Presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday, February 20, 2027. The Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections were fixed for Saturday, March 6, 2027.
However, the announcement generated reactions from certain Muslim stakeholders who raised concerns about the timing of the elections. They pointed out that the proposed dates fall within the 2027 Ramadan period, a month of fasting and heightened religious observance for Muslims. Critics argued that holding elections during Ramadan could affect voter turnout and participation, particularly in predominantly Muslim communities.
Although the electoral commission has yet to make further adjustments public, the debate highlights the sensitivity surrounding election scheduling in a religiously diverse nation. As political parties such as the African Democratic Congress intensify preparations through initiatives like digital membership registration, attention is also focused on ensuring that the electoral timetable promotes maximum participation and national inclusiveness.
With the launch of its new portal and the call for membership revalidation, the ADC appears determined to strengthen its organizational base well ahead of 2027, signaling its readiness to play a significant role in the country’s next general elections.See_More…
